Wish list: Makeup Essentials



I've been wanting to buy some new makeup goodies, but I spent an unspeakable amount on school books. So, I compiled a short little wishlist of things I have been eyeing...hopefully, this will temporarily quench my desire to buy makeup >.<

I have been working up the nerve to splurge on RMS Beauty's "Un" Cover-up. It's a "green" concealer made with coconut oil and cocoa butter, and all these other goodies.

Josie Maran's Black Oil Mascara has been on my radar, too. It is paraben and phtalate free :) And honestly, who doesn't want argan oil conditioning and softening their lashes?

Lastly, Anastasia Beverly Hill's Brow Wiz has been on my wish list for a whileeeee...I have been wanting to try a luxe version of my beloved, Milani Easy Brow. I will definitely be purchasing this ABH eyebrow wand my next make-up trip.

Differin Gel: What I Wish My Dermatologist Would Have Told Me...

When my dermatologist prescribed Differin gel aka Adapalene, I thought, “Awesome! I’ll just put this on my face, and ‘Voila’  -- I would be acne free.” I was incredibly wrong! After two nights of applying Adapalene on my face, I began to break-out with cystic acne, my skin became super sensitive,  burned when I splashed my face with water, and the skin on my face began to peel. After experiencing these negative side effects, I did some research on the manufacturer’s website, WebMD, Google, Instagram, Youtube, etc. So, I want to share with you what I learned… How does Differin Gel/Adapalene work? Differin gel/adapalene is a type of synthetic retinoid. It is one of the mildest forms available. Retinoids help your skin slough off (or  desquamate ) dead skin cells at a more normal rate. Sloughing aka exfoliating your dead skin cells is beneficial in that the dead skin cells don't bind together and clog your pores. When your pores aka oil ducts are clogged, you get acne!

My Current Skincare Routine

My skin has been terrible, and when I get breakouts, they are scarring, painful cystic acne blowouts that I would get on my chin and on the sides of my nose. They generally occur with my monthly period, or just after. I am not one to pick them because when I did the scarring would be even worse. I was courageous enough to let my cystic acne take its course, but it made me never want to leave the house. If you have read my Adapalene post from a year ago, you will know that my first dermatologist prescribed me that one cream, gave me zero directions, and sent me on my way. Not surprising my face never cleared up. Instead, I still had acne, my skin got flaky, peely, dry, irritated, and just plain terrible. I really resent my first dermatologist for doing that to me.
